Bees, Baptisms and Farmers Markets

This past week started out as a seemingly slower and more normal week of summer. It's the kind of pace that I enjoy. It's not that I don't like being social, but I do enjoy having a slower pace, getting things done without feeling rushed and still having some time to enjoy the evening, fishing or just sitting on the swing.

Originally our week pretty much looked like this; go to Aiyana’s' volleyball game on Monday evening, make glass and work around the shop the first half of the week, help my uncle cut down a tree, and then wrap up the end of the week with my part-time job. Jenelle would be canning tomatoes and salsa and getting the homeschooling year started. On Sunday our oldest two were going to be baptized and we would celebrate with friends and a potluck at my dad's pavilion afterwards. Jenelle was spending time preparing for that as well.

And that's pretty much how it went, except that we decided it would be good to make our glass wareroom  a little more presentable, and then, since we didn't have plans Friday evening, we decided to take our glass to the local farmers market.

And so with the spackling and moving all of our glass out of our wareroom, and then trying to figure out where we placed specific items so that we could take them to the market, it turned into a hectic week.

On Tuesday during lunch Jenelle suggested  that if I would like to get close to nature, I could go and pick some more tomatoes for her so that she would have enough for a big batch of salsa that she was working on. It sounded like a great idea to me and so I went and picked some tomatoes. Well, now I can say this, "don't go picking tomatoes in your short pants"! A wasp that was flying around my leg but unbeknownst to me, decided to fly north. Well, when I felt the tickle on the back of my leg, I thought it was a bug and tried to brush it out. Of course it reacted and then I reacted, and then it reacted again. And I don't react well to bee stings. I tried to tough it out but my leg started to swell and my knee started to swell and then my ankle started to swell. And so I took Benadryl. I have this love/hate relationship with Benadryl. It did what it was meant to do but the rest of my day was miserable. I just hate being in that sloggy and groggy state of mind!

We made it through the week. The wareroom isn't finished but we had a great day at the farmers market.

The best part of the week was seeing our oldest two kids getting baptized in the river on Sunday. Maybe they're not kids anymore but that's what I'll always call them. There's just an affection that goes with that word and I never want to lose it.

And seeing them making that choice to follow Jesus and recognizing that they can't do it perfectly on their own, but in some way, the consequences of all the flaws that they've made or will make will be washed away and made ok, now that gives me joy! Because in my opinion, that's the only thing that will ever give them the freedom to walk on the path that they were meant to walk with joy, no matter what that path might be.
