Update
This morning I wanted to take a little time to update you all and let you know where we're at. Actually, I'm currently in a tree stand, listening to acorns fall and watching a black and white wren through my binoculars. I'll try to figure out what kind it is when I get home.
Our archery season for deer here in Maryland starts in early September. Personally, I prefer to wait for cooler temperatures before harvesting anything. But I do love getting out! Mostly for observation and scouting for that perfect early November spot. But since I like to write Monday morning blogs, I figured that it would be the perfect place to write from as well, and so I'm here.
This morning I hiked into a little spot above Monroe Run. It doesn't have very many deer, but it's really neat and rugged terrain, and there's a good chance that I'll get to see something out of the ordinary like a fisher, or a bear, or maybe even a bobcat. There's something special about getting into a tree before daylight, feeling the darkness and silence, giving way to daylight and birds singing, and this morning was no different.
But, I said that I wanted to give you an update on where we are, not so much where I am. And since Jenelle is more into fitness, she isn't here with me. She is more into running and biking and the extreme things. We kinda meet in the middle with hiking, camping and backpacking. We follow our different passions on our own, trying to be supportive of each other and giving each other time to do the things we love. Maybe you could say that we are both into fitness. Trying to fittin-is all into our schedule.
Ok, back to Keen and Bright. Jenelle has been ordering boxes and working on the packaging part of things. Jenelle is also working on our "shop" page on our website. Although you guys can't see it yet, we are working on it and eventually you will be able to purchase things online. Also, if we have enough product, we are hoping to do a couple of shows later in the fall and winter. We'll give you more info about them when we're sure that we are doing them.
I've been passionate about making glass antlers and the ones that I am making are looking nice. My hope is to continue on this path and continue to develop products around that. We've been coming up with ideas on how to use them in décor. We created an antler-on-a-rock tealight for a charity event and had some initial positive responses and we are excited about that.
We are also working on some small knick-knacky things like little birds and a neat little acorn vase that you'll see more of in the coming weeks.
So we aren't as far along as we thought we'd be when we started this venture six months ago. That being said, it feels like we are on a really good path. I'm still working three days a week at my job so we have a steady income. We’ve been having family time, as well as keeping up with our kids activities.
As my friend Wayne says, "it doesn't matter how you finish in a rat race, if you're in the race, you're still a rat."
And so we'll continue to be content on that slower path. God is good and his timing is right.
Thank you all for following along, reading our blog and encouraging us along the way.
